Sandra is a local Artist and Illustrator, living and working from her home in the picturesque village of Slindon. Sandra’s love of the South Downs has been a continual influence and inspiration. The current exhibition shows recent works, celebrating the joy and peace of nature found in the landscape.
Speaking of her work, Sandra describes her painting process: “My painting ideas are formed largely from regular walks on the Downs and studying plant life in my garden. I work from sketches and photographs, also memory and imagination. From these initial studies, I work in my studio to push the ideas further, often resulting in abstracting small details to produce some exciting results. Working in mixed media, I love to paint outdoors. Observing nature provides me with a sense of calm and freedom, an important part of the process. I aim to capture emotional response, along with the ever changing light and elements. The size of work varies from large canvas to small studies on paper. I produced a lot of material during lockdown, much of which has fed into this body of work.”
Sandra has also illustrated a children’s book by a local author and posters for the National Trust.
